When: Saturday, July 18, 4:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Where: Southern Crescent at the Galisteo Basin Preserve
Come explore the Galisteo Basin Preserve trails — now open to the public—enjoy some BBQ, and see the stars up close on Saturday, July 18, with Commonweal Conservancy and the Santa Fe Conservation Trust.
We’ll convene in the future Southern Crescent neighborhood in the Galisteo Basin Preserve for your choice of hiking or mountain biking, followed by a sunset BBQ dinner catered by the Cowgirl, then finish with an hour of stargazing with Peter Lipscomb and the volunteers from the Capital City Astronomy Club.
We’ll provide Galisteo Basin Preserve trail maps and captains for advanced, intermediate, and easy trail excursions (select from hiking or mountain biking options). A BBQ dinner, including a vegetarian option, will be catered by the Cowgirl Hall of Fame restaurant. Professional and amateur astronomers will contribute telescopes and guidance.
NOTE: Please be aware that this event takes place on unimproved, natural lands with a limited number of straw bales for seating. Sturdy shoes and rugged clothing are suggested. The astronomy activity requires a certain comfort level with being out in nature after dark. You will need to bring your own mountain bike.
Further details and instructions will be emailed to you upon registration. Call 505-989-7019 if you need more information before registration.
